Air Canada adds $25 checked bag fee for economy travel an announcement similar announcement by WestJet.
The cost of flying on the cheap is costing more for travellers seated in economy who purchased a tango-class ticket. Currently the fee is only on flights within Canada and to and from the U.S., Caribbean and Mexico.
Don’t blame Air Canada for following the cash cows, the entire airline industry is chasing the discount carriers who feed their golden calf by adding extra fees and charges to cheap bare-bone airfares.
Free checked bags, booze and food, spacious seats are still there if you buy the right ticket. Legacy Airlines like Air Canada are facing the facts that to serve the growing interest in travel they need to respond to pricing by low cost carriers who are continuously adjusting pricing by managing their service standards. Ultimately they all need to improve their marketability and profitability to stay in business with the support of their clients and shareholders.
