Costa Brava Glamping – Part 3
Camping Treumal – A Spanish Beauty on a rugged coastline
‘The King of Spain once played tennis near the swimming pool,’ said Luis Cabeza, as we wander through the expansive gardens before entering the Casa de la platja d’es Monestri. ‘David Niven loved relaxing here in this room now renovated to serve as a restaurant for guests,’ Luis continued as the restaurant convince me of their high quality of preparing local seafood.
Purchased in 1983 by the Cabeza brothers, Luis and Jose, an architect and an engineer by trade, Treumal has under go a transformation for the past 30 years. Luis pointed out, “We took great care to protect the natural pine forest and maintain the character of this old country estate as we transformed it with stone wall terraces for 536 campsites.” As we navigating the eight hectares of manicured grounds, beautifully stonewalled terraces and labyrinth of pathways, Luis quipped, “Each guest receives a map but its really simple to find the beach keeping walking downhill and you will find the beaches.” There are several campsites overlooking this stunningly beautiful rugged coastline with two white sandy beaches, synonymous with the Costa Brava region.
During peak season each of Treumal’s 165 bungalows can only be booked for complete weeks. One simple architectural difference than the others I stayed in will make life easier for any family on holidays – the toilette is conveniently situated in a different room other than the sink and shower.

Bookings swelled after Treumal won Deutscher Camping Club 2013 Europa Preis for Spain. A family of four will pay about 1014 euros for a week in a luxurious bungalow as during the peak season months of July and August booking for a week or more is required. You’ll find more flexibility if arriving with a tent or a RV as these sites can be book by the night for 63 euros.
“There is plenty on offer – good playground, pools, tennis, football, volleyball, mini-golf, a games room, and an animation program for kids with one staff member to every 5 kids,” concluded Luis. “Oh and one more thing, we’re expanding or entertainment for older visitors to include outdoor activities such as hiking, not just the typical disco nights, and yes of course flamenco dance evenings – to show that inner Spanish beauty.”
