Costa Brava Glamping – Part 2

Laguna – Ambiance on a Beach
Well if dance is a Spanish thing, then Camping Laguna kept their visitors in the mood until midnight with live music on the restaurant’s outside terrace.
Fifty-three year old Joan Marc Grau, Managing Director, has worked in campgrounds since he was 18, “Choosing the right staff is an invaluable part of our organization’s success towards achieve customer satisfaction.” Everyone at Camping Laguna shares in that goal, Juan Vargas, the head of Food and Beverage, has worked in campgrounds for over 32 years, “I believe our success is creating an ambiance that will bring smiles to all our guests.” If by magic the restaurant empties as guests exit to dance on the terrace to a rendition of ‘Every Breathe You Take’.
The 995 pitches at Laguna are situated inside the Nature Park ‘Aiguamolls de l’Empordà’ and bisected by two lagoons favoured by water foul and shore birds. Several RV and tenting pitches oversee the beach, while most bungalows cup the first lagoon. There are 32 newer bungalows ‘Muga’ and 27 ‘Fluvià’. The Muga bungalows boasting a large open kitchen, dining and living room and loads of storage space!
During high season Bungalows can only be booked for complete weeks so a family of four will pay 980 euros, while tent and RV sites can be booked by the day at 62 euros per night for the family.
“We improved upon the older bungalows to also included a large deck so our guests can relax after biking, hiking or riding horses through the Estuary,” stated Assistant Director, Dani Anguilar. “Of course you can also try many other things, such learn to sky dive, windsurf, snorkel… or visit Cadaqués.”
Cadaques is 40 minutes by car, but be prepared for turns, lots of turns as the road snakes through Cap de Creus Natural Park. The drive is worth doing as picturesque fishing village was inspiration to Picasso, Marcel Beauchamp and Costa Brava’s favoured artist Dali.
It is also home to the restaurant, Compartir, the Catalan verb for ‘to share’. “All dishes are served communally in the centre of the table,” explains Mateu Casañas. “We wanted to create a restaurant with a relaxing ambience, while advancing local Catalan cuisine with molecular recipes of spherification.” The whole menu is enticing – but a local favourite is the ‘Lobster Rice’.
Dutch, German and French represent two thirds of Costa Brava visitors with most staying during peak season months of July and August. The early season May through June and then later in autumn the campground ambience turn towards active seniors like Widfreid Saltz from Aschaffenburg, he’s been visiting Laguna for over 15 years. “Over the years were made long lasting friendships and plan our visits to Laguna with a group of around 20 friends from around Western Europe,” Saltz explains, “This year we’re learning to windsurf.”
